Scheduling Senior Portraits

I often have people mention they want to schedule their child's Senior Photos, but they aren’t quite sure when the best time is to get on my calendar.

I’m sure you’re looking for a short answer here, but the truth is it depends on your Seniors schedule of activities. Typically you would want to do them the summer before they start their Senior Year, but we can do an outdoor session all the way up to about mid November in the Central Illinois area. After that, we’re looking at an indoor session.

Here are a few things to consider when planning for your Senior Portraits:

1. Are you in a sport or other extracurricular that has a “busy” season? Planning around games, and practices can be a challenge. I’d encourage you to pick an off peak time to book your session. Although, if you can swing it, incorporating these into your session can be amazing too!

2. Do you have a deadline that you need your images by? This could be for your yearbook, yearbook ads, grad announcements, etc. If so, it’s best to get you session scheduled before school starts.

3. Does the color of the leaves around you matter? Without a doubt Fall is one of the most sought after times for a session. However, if Fall color makes no different to you, then you can schedule your session during any season. Spring can be pretty with pink blossoms and Summer with the Sunflower Fields.

4. Lastly, do you have a preferred outfit look in mind? If you want easy breezy light weight, plan for the Spring, Summer or Early Fall. If you want lots of layers, plan for Late Fall or Winter.

Final Tip: Plan in advance! The weather forecast changes daily, and rain earlier in a preferred season may effect scheduled sessions which will limit availability. Set yourself up for the most options!
