College Senior Graduation Session {What to Wear}
Illinois State University Graduation Photos
We are fortunate to have two great universities right here in Bloomington Normal Illinois: Illinois State University, Home of the Redbirds and Illinois Wesleyan University, Home of the Titans! I have spent time on both these campuses and both are stunning, it’s no wonder you have called this home the past few years!
Graduating from college is such a significant achievement, and it's only fitting to want to commemorate the moment with a senior photo session. However, choosing just the right outfit can be a bit overwhelming. So, I’ve created this blog post to help you look your best and capture this milestone in style!!
Here are three essential tips on what to wear to your college graduation senior photo session.
1. Dress to Express Your Personal Style
Your senior photo session is all about celebrating your unique journey and accomplishments, so it's essential to wear an outfit that reflects your personal style. While it's traditional to wear a cap and gown for the actual graduation ceremony, your senior photos allow you to showcase your personality and individuality.
Consider outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Whether you're into classic elegance, boho chic, preppy, or something entirely your own, choose clothing that aligns with your style. This is an opportunity to let your personality shine through, so don't be afraid to express yourself.
2. Think Timeless and Versatile
When deciding what to wear, think about how you'll feel looking at these photos years from now. To ensure your images remain timeless, opt for classic and versatile clothing. Neutral solid colors like black, white/cream, navy are a good place to start. Consider adding in red for Illinois State University Graduates and green for Illinois Wesleyan University Graduates. I love this simple nods to your soon to be alma mater!
Also consider small pattern in clothing that won't distract from your face, allowing your personality and emotions to take center stage.
In terms of clothing options, consider dresses, suits, or separates that showcase your growth into adulthood and as you step into your next career path. Dresses can be a great choice for a feminine, timeless look, while a well-fitted suit can exude confidence and professionalism. Focus on the fit and now is a great time to invest in quality of your attire to ensure you look polished in your photos.
3. Pay Attention to Details
This is easily my favorite, and often overlooked tip. The small details can make a significant difference in your grad photos. Here are some things to keep in mind:
Accessories: Choose accessories that complement your outfit and style. A statement necklace, a tie, a watch, or a pair of elegant earrings can add a touch of sophistication to your look.
Shoes: Your shoes matter, even if they won't be prominently featured in the photos. Ensure they match your outfit and are in good condition. Comfort is key because you'll likely be walking and posing for extended periods.
Hair and Makeup: Invest a little extra time in grooming. For women, professional hair and makeup services can make a difference in how you look and feel. For men, a fresh haircut and well-groomed facial hair can elevate your appearance. I recommend getting haircuts/color about 2 weeks prior to allow hair to look natural.
Comfort: Make sure you feel comfortable in your chosen outfit. Discomfort can show in your expressions, so choose clothing that allows you to move and pose naturally—and makes you feel confident!
