Railroad Safety
You’ll notice that there are no images of railroad tracks in this blog post. In fact, you will never see images of my clients or family on railroad tracks for 2 reasons: it’s incredibly dangerous and it’s illegal to be on railroad tracks. More information on the Stay Off The Tracks website.
One should not assume abandoned tracks to be safe to photograph on either. I have an acquaintance that I see sharing images of her children taken on tracks periodically and I cringe with fear every time I see them! When you post images on tracks, others will mimic your behavior.
I was talking to my dear friend and photographer, Jen Micheletti, about this topic recently. She too has written a blog post cautioning others on railroad track safety. It sparked a question, why are we drawn to these locations? After all, it’s seems creepy to put people on tracks, right?
I believe we are drawn to these because of the leading lines that are created from the tracks. It gives a sense of pointing our eyes right to the subject in the photo. And the photos also leave us with a sense of curiosity of what may lie ahead. Here are a few family and senior pictures of images that illustrate leading lines through fences and other objects in our world.
