Quick Posing Tips

Whether it’s for family portraits, senior pictures or an everyday snapshot with your cell phone, by learning to pose in front of the camera can make a big difference. These simple techniques will help you position yourself confidently in front of the camera, and with practice you’ll be striking the right pose every time!

Posing Tip #1 Angle your body away from the camera and shift your weight onto the back foot.

Turning your body at a 45 degree angle from the camera, versus full on, creates a slimming effect and great angle in photos. Additionally, whatever is closest to the camera looks bigger, if you don’t want to emphasize your bootie push it back!

Posing Tip #2 If it bends, bend it.

Instead of having straight arms down by your side, put a slight bend in your elbow. This creates “negative space” between your waist and arm which takes away from your width instead of adding to it. You can achieve this by placing hands on hips or in pockets too. Added bonus, make your hand placement asymmetrical or tip one shoulder down to give a slight variation and natural appearance to this pose.

Posing Tip #3 Chin out and down

This one feels weird but photographs beautifully. This one is all about creating a jawline with shadows and can take a little practice looking in the mirror. For this tip you push your head forward, then tilt down. You can add to this look by tilting your head slightly to the left or right depending on how your lower body is positioned.

Putting It All Together

Above all else, be proud of who you are! Your smile can change the world for one person, and that one person might be yourself.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
